ILR Peruvian Hemingways Protege Cria

Our first Protege cria have now arrived. They include one solid white female cria, and two male crias, one white and one solid very light fawn.

The three cria are flourising. They are a good size and have plenty of energy.

Their fleece looks extremly dense and feels very soft. We look forward to seeing how it develops over the next few months.

The cria in the photo is Hume whose mother is Camber and is one of our best performing females in relation to density and fineness of fleece.

Halcyon Magnate Cria

We now have ten Magnate crias on the ground, with more due towards the end of the year. We are extremely pleased with the cria who are growing well and are consistent in appearance. Magnate certainly seems to be adding improvement over the dams of the cria.

Their fleece is extremly dense and lustrous with a soft handle. We look forward to having it micron tested over the next couple of months.

The cria in the photos are Hannah and Heather. The first two phots were taken when they were one week old, the other two taken just recently at approx 4 to 5 months of age.

Currumbong Flash

Currumbong Flash will be available soon for matings at an introductory rate.

Flash is a young male with great potential bred by Currumbong Alpacas. His sire is Forestglen Clancy and his dam is one of our best performing females, whose sire is Windsong Valley Jigeiko. As can be seen, he comes from a line of quality prize winning males.

Flash has a particularly dense and fine fleece.

Flash's 2006 (1st) fleece statistics: 16.6M 3.5SD 20.2%CV 100.0%CF.

Flash's 2007 (2nd) fleece statistics: 17.2M 3.2SD 18.5%CV 100.0%CF.

Flash was skin tested at the end of 2007 through SRS®, with a very high fibre follicle density of 55.8/sq mm, and an extremely good secondary:primary follicle ratio of 12.3.

Protégé is qualified as an SRS® Wool Male, with a particularly high fibre follicle density of 68.2/sq mm, and a secondary:primary follicle ratio of 10.6.

Illawarra Yohimbine Cria

In the spring of 2006, we leased Illawarra Yohimbine (son of Prestige Valentino) from Illawarra Alpacas.

The females mated to him have now produced their cria. We are now the proud owners of 4 female and 3 male Yohimbine cria.

The cria are growing and developing extremely well and their fleeces feel very soft and dense to touch. Here are some photos of the cria.

Halcyon Magnate

We are pleased to announce our recent purchase of Halcyon Magnate from Halcyon Alpaca Stud, Healesville, Victoria. Magnate is a grandson of the US sire Peruvian Caliguila.

Magnate has a deep bold crimp with a soft silky feel. His conformation is excellent with solid stance and frame. He is showing high density and good fibre growth rates. Magnate's fleece was awarded second place in its class at the Royal Canberra Show 2007.

Magnate has commenced stud duties at Currumbong and is now available for outside matings. For more details on these please refer to our Stud Males page.

Currumbong Burley

We are extremely pleased with the quality and consistency of Burley's cria. He is passing on the fineness of his fleece to the cria. Fan's second fleece was just over 20 microns. Also he is producing lighter coloured cria from brown and fawn dams.

Some of Burley's March 2008 crias have now arrived and include three females and two males. All of these are very pleasing and are either solid white or the lightest of fawn.

Burley is available for outside matings. For more details please refer to our Stud Males page.

Photos of Burley and some of his cria in order are: (1) Burley, (2) Farley, (3) Fans and (4) Franche.

Peru Trip

In November 2007 I travelled to Peru to attend the Alpaca Fiesta held Arequipa. It was a very full few days with judging, conference proceedings, trade stands, gala dinner fashion parade etc. One of the highligts for me was the day excursion to Toccra to observe and participate in the Chaccu.

After the Fiesta, I participated in a short tour which included flying from Arequipa to Cusco, visiting Macchu Picchu and returning to Lima.

Here are some photos taken whilst in Peru.
